The home game V Nottingham Panthers originally scheduled for Saturday December 1st has been moved to Friday November 30th at 7:30pm. The game v Fife Flyers originally scheduled for November 30th will be moved to a new date, which will be confirmed shortly.
A spokesperson for the Giants explained the change:
“The Odyssey Arena have taken away our home date on December 1st, which can happen to Arena based teams like ourselves, Nottingham and Sheffield. This does not happen often but it has happened and the Giants apologise for the inconvenience this schedule change will have to our fans and in particular the travelling fans from Nottingham and Fife.
“The reason behind the change of both games is because the Panthers have a limited amount of weekend dates to play us on and we have a limited amount of weekend dates to move the game to, hence the move to November 30th. This date was the only date that we could play the Panthers at the Odyssey Arena.
“Understandably the Fife Flyers are not happy with this change of fixtures but teams have to be accommodating to the home team when no other options are available, which is the case here with the Panthers. We did look to see how many traveling fans this affected from Fife and to date there have been no tickets bought for the away section and only 2 tickets purchased online from a Scottish address.
“This decision has been taken to accommodate a Panthers fixture on the only available date both teams could play and since Fife have more availability with the available dates to come to Belfast, they have been moved. The Fife Flyers organisation did voice their concern about the fixture change and the potential disruption for travelling Fife supporters, but losing a home date as an Arena team is out of our control and the trickle down effect has resulted in issues for the Giants, Panthers and Flyers. We understand many fans will be upset but there is nothing we can do about it and unfortunately we are not obligated or able to offer refunds for any travel plans already made.”
