The Belfast Giants are pleased to announce that Mark “Mo Train” Morrison, one of the Giants’ most popular players ever, has agreed to terms for another season, his seventh with his native team.

‘Mo’ has become a folk hero in Belfast with the Odyssey Arena faithful who adore his pride and passion for the Giants jersey which is evident on every single game night. Mark has proven that he can do more than stand up for himself and has earned a reputation as a bit of a bruiser in his weight class. He is also the star of the Irish National Team, winning tournament MVP in 2007 whilst leading his team to the silver medal in the World Championships.

Mark had an notable 2008/09, scoring 8 goals and 8 assists for 16 points, a personal best for the Northern Irish forward. Morrison’s six years of professional hockey have all been spent with the Giants and 2009/10 he will be looking to build on the two championships that the Giants won last year.

“I’m happy to be back and I’m really eager to play for Steve again,” said Morrison. “He is building an exciting team yet again and I’m pleased to be a part of his plans for next season. I just want to contribute as much as possible, build on last year’s fantastic season and win more trophies.”

Coach Thornton was pleased to get Morrison signed up for next season, “We are very happy to have Mo back for another year. With his positive attitude and the fact we are training against great players everyday, Mo continues to improve. He provided invaluable leadership on the ice and in the locker room and seems to be a spark for us when the fire is missing. You build winning teams with great players and personalities and we are lucky to have a local guy that ticks both boxes”.
