A ruthless Giants offence led by Aaron Clarke dominated the Edinburgh Capitals in a 6-2 victory with the home team out shooting the visitors by a massive 42 shots to 11. After 20 minutes the scores were tied at 1-1 but an offensive onslaught from the Giants in the second period was enough to secure victory.
With this win the Giants moved nine points clear at the top of the standings. A sixth successive win for Giants with only one loss in eleven but for Capitals it’s a fourth straight loss and only one win in twelve.
The home team were first on the board as Jeff Mason scored after only 4.37 but despite Capitals mustering only a couple of shots on target in the opening period they shocked the home support by tying the session thanks to Rene Jarolin at 10.50.
Giants effectively killed off their opponents by scoring three times in under four minutes early on in the middle session. Strikes from Mark Garside at 23.05, Darryl Lloyd at 24.30 on the powerplay and Aaron Clarke at 26.50 had the hosts 4-1 ahead and cruising.
Capitals continued to struggle to get through the solid home defence and managed only eleven shots on goal during the full sixty minutes. The third period saw late scoring from Robert Dowd for Giants at 52.28, Iain Bowie for the visitors at 53.52 and finally Dowd again at 57.12 on the powerplay to see Doug Christiansen’s men safely home and able to prepare for tomorrow’s huge match against Nottingham again at the Odyssey.
